General Questions
Ashland Town FC is a community-rooted soccer club based in Ashland, Virginia. We offer programs at every level — from Grassroots entry-level soccer for the youngest players, to competitive Travel Teams for U9 through U16, all the way up to our PRO23 team competing against semi-professional clubs. Our mission is to develop talent at the highest levels possible, with a long-term outlook on player development.
Yes — for 2026-27 we are actively forming both boys and girls teams across multiple age groups. Girls teams are being formed at U9, U10, and U12. The U8 Junior Academy is open to boys and girls. Whether specific teams form depends on tryout turnout, but we are committed to expanding our girls program and will merge age groups where needed to accommodate as many families as possible.
Our club is rooted in the Ashland and Hanover County community, and we give preference to local players — but we welcome serious players from the broader region as well. If you're coming from outside the immediate area and want to know if it's a good fit, just reach out and we're happy to talk it through.
All programs are based at Poor Farm Park in Ashland, Virginia, which features lighted Bermuda grass fields. Teams use Field 1 and Field 2 depending on age group. It's a top-tier facility for a community club of our size.
Text message is the fastest way to reach us — we respond much quicker to texts than calls or email. You can also reach us by phone at (804) 488-3362 during office hours (Mon–Fri, 10AM–2PM), or by email at info@ashlandtown.com.
Grassroots Programs
We offer four grassroots programs for younger players developing their game:

U8 Junior Academy — Our entry-level competitive program for boys and girls born Aug 2018 – Jul 2019. Plays 5v5 and 7v7 in an in-house league with real games on the schedule.

U8 Travel Prep — Weeknight training only for players at the U8 level. No league games or weekend commitment. Focused on building the foundation needed to step into travel soccer.

U10 Travel Prep — Weeknight training for players working toward the U10 travel team. Same training-only format as U8 Travel Prep, no games or weekend requirement.

U9–U13 Skills Training — Tuesday nights, 6:30–8:00 PM at Poor Farm Park Field #1. Individual technical development open to players across those age groups, whether or not they're currently on a travel team.
The U8 Junior Academy is our entry-level competitive program for players born between August 2018 and July 2019, open to both boys and girls. It plays 5v5 and 7v7 in an in-house league format with a real game schedule. The program runs fall and spring at $750, with a monthly payment option of 10 × $75. Tryouts are held May 6 and 7 at Poor Farm Park Field 1.
Players who excel in the Junior Academy may be considered for travel team placement as they age up.
Travel Prep programs are weeknight training only — no league games and no weekend commitment. They're designed for players who want structured, high-quality coaching and are working toward joining a travel team, but whose family isn't ready for the full competitive schedule yet.

U8 Travel Prep is for players at the U8 level; U10 Travel Prep is for players working toward the U10 travel team. Contact us at info@ashlandtown.com or text (804) 488-3362 for current scheduling and pricing.
The key difference is games. The U8 Junior Academy includes a full in-house league schedule with real games — it's the more complete competitive experience. Travel Prep is training only with no games, meaning a lighter time commitment and a lower-pressure environment, while still delivering quality development coaching. Both serve as pathways into travel soccer.
Skills Training runs every Tuesday from 6:30–8:00 PM at Poor Farm Park Field #1, open to players in the U9 through U13 age groups. Sessions are focused on individual technical development — a great supplement for players already on a travel team who want extra reps, or a strong entry point for players not yet in a program who want structured coaching without a full season commitment. Contact us for current pricing and registration.
Absolutely — all of our grassroots programs are designed as pathways into our travel program. Players who develop quickly may be invited to guest-play with a travel team for additional challenge. When they're ready to make the jump, they'll already know our coaching staff and style of play.
Text or email us and we'll get you pointed in the right direction. Reach us at info@ashlandtown.com or text (804) 488-3362. U8 Junior Academy tryouts are May 6 and 7 at Poor Farm Park Field 1.
Travel Teams
We offer a full competitive pathway from U9 through U23:

U9–U10 Travel — 7v7, ADSL league, boys & girls
U11–U12 Travel — 9v9, ADSL league, boys & girls
U13–U14 Travel — 11v11, UPSL Academy or EDP, boys
U16 Academy — 11v11, UPSL Academy or EDP, boys, year-round
U20/U23 — 11v11, PRO23 league or Showcase Circuit, boys, summer only
Yes — we are actively building our girls program for 2026-27. Girls teams are being formed at U9, U10, and U12. The U8 Junior Academy is open to boys and girls. Whether each specific girls team forms depends on tryout turnout — we will combine age groups where possible to accommodate as many girls players as we can.
Girls interested in trying out should register for the appropriate age group tryout. See the Tryouts tab for specific dates.
Most travel programs run fall and spring — a full two-season commitment. The U16 Academy adds a summer component making it year-round. The U20/U23 program is summer only. Continuity within a team is essential for real development, and the two-season format gives coaches the time to build meaningfully on each player's progress.
Travel teams train twice per week. Training does not occur on holidays or days when Hanover County Schools are closed, so the schedule aligns naturally with your family's calendar.
Each team plays in four tournaments per year in addition to the regular league schedule. Tournament details and locations are communicated at the start of each season.
Team formation is based on tryout turnout and demand. If a specific age group doesn't reach minimum numbers, we will merge age groups where possible rather than canceling outright. We are committed to finding a home for every serious player who comes through our door.
Skill-focused training options are available to all players regardless of team formation outcomes or tryout selections.

Returning players are our first priority for placement and age group considerations. While all players go through the tryout process, we value the commitment of returning families and factor that heavily into roster decisions. Final decisions are made by Club Director Liam Hogan.

Yes — the U8 Junior Academy and all travel programs offer a 10-month payment plan so you can spread the cost across the year. Processing fees apply. Contact us at info@ashlandtown.com to set this up when registering.
For travel teams, the main additional cost is the uniform kit (~$120) purchased through soccer.com. Grassroots programs have no additional uniform costs. We'll always communicate any other costs clearly in advance — no surprise charges.
Kits are ordered through the ATFC club store on soccer.com at approximately $120. The direct link is provided when your player is officially rostered.
Refunds and cancellations are handled on a case-by-case basis. We always try to work with families in good faith. Contact us at info@ashlandtown.com or text (804) 488-3362 to discuss your situation.
Camps
We run two types of camps throughout the year, both open to players ages 7 to 12:

Spring Break Camp — Held during Hanover County spring break. A great way for players to stay sharp and get quality training time between seasons. Registration details are posted at ashlandtown.com when the camp opens.

Summer Camps — Sessions in June and July at Poor Farm Park. Exact dates are announced in the spring. Open to the whole community — no ATFC program membership required.
Follow us on social media or check ashlandtown.com for registration announcements. Spots fill quickly.
Both spring break and summer camps are open to players ages 7 to 12 of all skill levels. You do not need to be a current ATFC program player to attend — camps are open to the entire community.
Summer camp pricing typically falls in the $200–$300 range depending on session format and length. Spring break camp pricing is posted when registration opens. Email info@ashlandtown.com or text (804) 488-3362 to get on our notification list.
Yes. Camps give our coaches a chance to see players in a low-pressure setting and give players a feel for the ATFC style of coaching. Many campers go on to join our grassroots or travel programs. If your child attends and wants to take the next step, just let a coach know.
Registration links are posted at ashlandtown.com when each camp opens. Email info@ashlandtown.com or text (804) 488-3362 to be added to our notification list so you don't miss it.
PRO23 & U16 Academy
The U16 Academy is our highest-level youth program for players born between August 2010 and July 2011. It is a year-round commitment — fall, spring, and summer — competing in the UPSL Academy or EDP leagues. At $1,800 annually (or 10 × $180), it reflects the added summer component and elevated level of competition and coaching. Tryouts are held alongside the U15 group on May 4 and May 7.
The PRO23 team is ATFC's highest-level program, competing in the CCL PRO23 league against semi-professional clubs including those from USL League Two. It's designed for active college players, top high school standouts, former professionals, and coaches looking to compete at a high level during the summer. The program runs summer only at a fee of $325.
U20/U23 tryouts are held on Sunday, April 5 and Sunday, April 12 from 3:30–5:30 PM at Poor Farm Park Field 1. Check-in opens at 3:00 PM. Email info@ashlandtown.com to confirm your interest before the tryout date.
The PRO23 team regularly competes against clubs from USL League Two, the National Premier Soccer League, and the United Premier Soccer League through league matches and showcase friendlies — a genuine proving ground for players with ambitions beyond college.
Yes — since its inception the PRO23 program has steadily sent players on to higher levels of play. High-level training, a rigorous match schedule, and exposure to elite competition make it a legitimate pathway for players looking to continue their career beyond college.
