Ashland Town FC is extremely proud to announce Luke Messick as our top choice 1st team goalkeeper from now until the end of time. Luke was tragically killed on Monday, May 17th when his vehicle was hit from behind on his way to a soccer game. Luke has been instrumental to the development of Ashland Town FC and we will forever be grateful for his contributions on and off the field from late night debates about logos and player recruiting to hostile Spanish league championships with club partner, Transporte Juanita.
Across the four scrimmages ATFC has played to date, he refereed a game, assisted goals, scored a goal, and even got a red card for excessive celebration at the clubs first ever away scrimmage. There is nobody else like him and he will be dearly missed.
Information about a foundation being created in Luke’s honor to support an orphanage soccer team in Ghana will be announced when details are finalized and we hope you will consider supporting the cause. The support from the broader community shows the clear positive impact he made in the lives of thousands of people and we take great comfort in knowing that he has achieved local legend status and that he will continue to inspire so many people to improve the world around them.

ASHLAND, VA – Ashland Town FC is excited to announce a partnership with the Dominion Energy Innovation Center, “an affiliated innovation center of Activation Capital that supports early-stage advanced technology companies by providing them with the collaborative space, guidance, and resources needed to accelerate their growth.”
The DEIC is a hub of entrepreneurial activity in Downtown Ashland and they have been supporting entrepreneurship in meaningful ways around Ashland since 2009. This partnership is yet another example of the DEIC’s ability to inspire growth along with their willingness to build bridges within the start-up community around the Center of the Universe.
The Founder of ATFC, Liam Hogan, has been involved with the DEIC since last spring when he won the 2020 Center Street Pitch Competition in his final year as a student at Randolph-Macon College. Hogan completed a business management degree at R-MC where he also played and worked as a student assistant coach for the Yellow Jackets NCAA DIII men’s soccer program.
ATFC is grateful for this support from the DEIC as they welcome the club to operate in their newly expanded space for the summer of 2021. This partnership will provide ATFC with valuable resources and relationships with some of the brightest minds in the Richmond area.
The progressive and professional setting of the DEIC will also provide a great environment for the ATFC front office to prepare for games where Ashland’s new soccer team will take on some of the top semi-professional teams in our region in June and July. As part of this partnership, the Dominion Energy Innovation Center logo will be displayed on the ATFC website, in digital media posts, and on the sleeves of ATFC game jerseys this summer.
More information about the Dominion Energy Innovation Center can be found on their website.
